Recently I received an email from a reader who wanted to know the pros and cons of going home during a deployment and should she move. While I think this is more a decision of personal preference my friend Sherrill and I shared our advice and past experiences in the video below...feel free to share your comments.

What a great topic --this was very interesting, Krystel! ;)
ReplyDeleteI actually was at home for the first 2 deployments with my family in Canada and the 3rd which was the longest as hubby was in Iraq I stayed in New York and had some close friends nearby. I didn't have any family there but they were only a 5-hr drive away so I knew they could come visit me if I had a rough patch.
I was just thinking of this topic area lately and I noticed that every deployment had its own style and I had a new coping mechanism. The first deployment family was enough. The second, I worked two jobs and was legally married stayed at home with my family so ready to fly! and for the 3rd I was solo but a few days before hubby deployed we just added a companion to the family to keep me company (a pet bunny) ;)
It really is a personal choice and I think in a way it can be a blessing to be creative with the process and know that we really do have a unique role to fill --for your own life! *active waiting ;)
so it is definitely helpful to listen to our intuition which is so wise in these situations. Thanks for sharing! ~Jenn
