Vets Prevail

As a military spouse with a husband currently on a second tour to Iraq, I am a strong advocate and committed to helping our returning service members seek help for issues that may arise due to the emotional toll being in a combat zone can take on one.

With that said I was honored to be contacted to help spread the word about "Vets Prevail" a six week ,program which service members can access from the privacy of their own home. The sessions are delivered via Instant Message chat sessions and interactive videos along with licensed professionals.

Vets Prevail is developed by Vets for Vets and current service members. Service members and vets can take full comfort in knowing this program was developed by people who have been exactly where they are. I was recently given the opportunity to take a look at the program and can say that it is easy to use and very well put together.

Please take a look at the Vets Prevail Viral Video below. If you have a spouse or a family member who you feel the Vets Prevail program could help , please send an email to krystel@armywife101.com.

Army Wife 101 has been given 15 access codes to share before the official Veteran's Day launch of Vet's Prevail.

Your information shall and will remain confidential and once ,I issue you a code I will no longer have access to your information.

Visit Vets Prevail to learn more.

Incoming Personnel

Greetings All!

As usual, I’m late to the party lol. I had an amazing summer visiting friends and family. Now that the kids are back in school, things are finally getting back to “normal”.

My name is Sherrill. I am a twenty-eight year old Army wife and mother of two. We are currently stationed at Hunter Army Airfield here in Savannah, GA. I can’t say enough about this place. It is beyond awesome. My husband is gearing up for his third..no..fourth deployment? There have been so many that I have just stopped counting. It is what it is. Ok, deployment talk depresses me so let’s move on.

Random things...smell of vanilla, cinnamon, the ocean, cotton candy, and the rain. Love thunderstorms and hard rain. I can't get enough of James Patterson and Stephen King. I love movies. I love to cook. I like everything from cheeseburgers to chicken marsala. Baking is also something I enjoy doing. My brownies are the best thing ever. And it’s all homemade. I enjoy history, art and photography. Let's see...I CANNOT go a day without an “I love you" from my husband and kids, listening to music, and my Golden Girls!

Krystel and I have lots of great things in the works and are planning to make Army Wife 101 the best, informative blogsite for army wives.

I look forward to talking with everyone. If you have any questions or just want to chat, you can email me at sherrill@armywife101.com

Have a safe and great Labor Day weekend!

Sometimes You Need Someone To Talk To...

If your spouse has ever been deployed, then I'm sure you have laid in bed crying yourself into a full blown snot bubble at some point or another because you were just having one of those miserable days where you wish you had someone to talk to and no one was around.

I know I had many of those days and it didn't mean I wasn't strong and couldn't handle a deployment, it just meant that I was having a bad day and we are entitled to those every so often.

Thanks to Military One Source we (spouses) can talk to someone whenever we need to no matter the time or day from the comfort of our phone. You can even talk to a counselor via a Skype session.

If you need to talk to someone and live CONUS follow the information listed below:
Private Help 24/7
Call and Talk Anytime 1.800.342.9647

If you live OCONUS visit Military One Source choose your spouse's branch of service and after you reach the main area choose your OCONUS location and a number (#) will be displayed for you.

Military One Source really has some great resources for us. I hope you will utilize them.

MC Bans Social Networking Sites Is Army Next?

friendster myspace ban Pictures, Images and Photos
This absolutely scares me and pisses me off at the same time. I won't bore you with an detailed explanation here is the article : Social Networking Sites.

It scares me because I wonder what military branch is next and what else will be banned?

That simple.

Edited to Clarify: I am well aware that the blocking of the Social Networks is only on DOD computers. The reason it still bothered me is because even overseas not every soldier is lucky enough to have a laptop. So my opinion is geared towards those who have no choice but to use what I assume are government computers. I am guessing this would also block MWR computers which to my knowledge are also considered government computers.

Lastly this entry was to inform any wives who may not know about this.

It pisses me off because our men and women go off for months and sometimes years at a time and these SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES are great ways to share pics and communicate.

With respect to OPSEC I hope they can come up with a better way.

Army To Grow by More Then 22,000 Soldiers...

So I won't bore you with the news details if you want to read it click Army Increases

Before I go any further please remember that what makes and will continue to make Army Wife 101 unique is that I write this stuff the way I would want to read it. I can't stand long rambles lol , long articles and overly drawn out complicated sentences.

My feelings on the 22k Increase are simple:

1. I feel like it will take the strain off the current soldiers currently serving and also maybe increase the amount of time the soldier is able to be home in between deployments.

I mean geeze in my case we just hit the one year mark and our next deployment is already looming .

2. I think this increase will be a great way to open up jobs for people (those that want to serve). We all know that in this economy that the military and the stability of it is a great thing.

What do you guys think of the 22k increase? Yay , Nay leave a comment!

Are You Really Saving at the Commissary?

This article Putting The Commissary To The Test got me to thinking :

So lately I've been complaining alot about the rising cost at the commissary. It doesn't help that where stationed here in Hawaii and food is just expensive in general.

So while I am now paying close to $3.00 just to get a good loaf of bread it beats paying $5 or $6 at the local grocery stores outside post.

I know when we were stationed at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah GA, their were certain key items I brought weekly for my kids such as Poptarts and Fruitsnacks. I would absolutely get a kick out of how one week poptarts were a $1.50 a box and the next week they were $2.01 a box. The same thing would happen with the fruitsnacks. I mean geesh what happened in a week that cost for a 50 cent rise in price lol!

But for any CONUS ladies have you noticed your commissary prices getting higher?
