I've received close to 15 emails over the last two weeks asking me about PCS moves and what exactly happens after AIT. Many spouses are confused on how to schedule a move, when orders are received and much more. I am working on a revised part two about PCS'ing , but since these questions are at the top of my list I thought it would be a good time to post this tutorial.
If any experienced spouses have more information to add, please feel free to do so in the comments portion below.

Pertaining to AIT - there is still potential that the spouse/family has an option of moving to the AIT location. if the school is due to last 20+ weeks, the soldier's AIT orders should state that dependants and household goods are authorized to be moved at government expense. this does NOT guarantee them to live in military housing, nor guarantee that the soldier is allowed to even live with the family up front (usually required to remain in barracks first 20 weeks of AIT but command might authorize them to live out of barracks with family). again, nothing can happen until they have those orders in hand but it is an option worth mentioning to the new spouses who want to be able to spend those months closer to their soldier while in training.
